Miracles: Epilogue Part 2 (Rivaille x Reader)

The continuing weeks of your pregnancy passed somewhat easily.  You had started getting better at controlling your hormones, though there was the occasional moments where you would just randomly burst into tears.  To which Levi would usually laugh at you for.  

The jerk.

You were now well into your third trimester.  Your once grapefruit sized belly had now doubled into a medium sized watermelon.  And with each given day, you found that doing certain tasks had become nearly impossible.  Getting up was certainly the trickiest.

Slowly, you would sit up and place a hand behind you back and another under your inflated stomach.  Taking a deep breath, you would push off of the chair or bed with hopefully enough force to get you upright.  Levi, would almost always be there for support whenever you needed it as well.  Which helped a lot.  Once upright, you would slowly hiss out the air in your lungs as the hand you had used to push off with found its way back to the small of your spine.  Supporting the excess weight you were carrying slightly.

Eventually, you gave up on doing thing such as cleaning and cooking.  And you could forget the paperwork...  You couldn't even fit into the desk!

You stood in front of the window, gently rubbing you bulging stomach as the baby continued to kick.  Flaunting hands and feet often found your intestines or stomach, causing you to wince slightly.

"I don't even want to know how crazy this little one's going to be once they come out."  You sighed to yourself.

You shivered slightly as a pair of strong hands covered your own.

"She'll probably end up being worse then you."  You heard Levi chuckled as he gently pressed himself against you.

Raising an eyebrow, you turned towards your husband.  "I still don't understand what makes you think it's a girl."

"As I said before, intuition."  Levi scoffed.

"Aren't the women the ones who are supposed to have good intuition?"

"Aren't men supposed to be the ones who lay around all day and not do the cleaning?"  Levi retorted.

You let out a laugh.  "You calling me a man, Shortstuff?"

"Depends, are you calling me a woman?"

"Perhaps."  You giggled.

Levi quickly grabbed you and pulled you into a headlock, grinding his knuckles around your skull.  Messing up your hair that was already messy in the first place.

"Oww.  Haha.  Ow ow ow.  Levi... the baby."  You gasped.

Quickly, Levi released his grip and stared at you worriedly.  "Is the baby okay?"

"Yeah.  And so am I thanks for asking."  You joked as you rubbed your belly some more.

"(Name)"  You heard Levi call to you softly.

You looked up to him.  The expression you met was a very worried one, his usually sharp eyes seemed to be glazed over.

You smiled at him.  "What is it Captain Levi, sir?"

Levi let out a slight smirk at your reply, though it quickly faded.

"There's going to be another expedition tomorrow."

The smile on your face fell slightly as you wrapped your hands around your plump belly.  However, it quickly returned as you leaned in and pecked the Corporal on the cheek.  Surprised, Levi's gaze shot up to you, a slightly bewildered look in his eyes.

"I know."  You smile brightly.  "But I also know that you'll come back safe.  Your my husband after all.  I never would have married you if I didn't believe that you would come back to me.  I'll be fine here by myself.  You know that."

"No."  Levi said suddenly.  "You won't be alone this time.  I'm leaving Hanji with you in case something happens."

He flashed you his signature smile, the one only you were allowed to see.  "Just promise me one thing."

"And what would that be?"

"Promise me that you'll try to hang on to the baby while I'm gone.  I-I want to be there whenever, you know."

Quickly, you reached for Levi's hand, wrapping his pinky in yours.  "I promise."  You smiled.  "Baby and I will be waiting for you whenever you return."

Levi pulled the hand you had promised on up to his lips, and placed a gentle kiss on the top of your hand.  "Thank you (name)."

The morning had long since passed and the Survey Corps was long since gone.

You were forced to see Levi and the others off at the door of the castle, as both Levi and Hanji refused to let you go down to the wall.  It was just too far and too crowded for you to be safe.

Slowly, you relaxed onto your bed that was now located in the infirmary.  As Hanji was too worried about you and your little one's health, she ordered that you spend the days of the expedition resting in the infirmary.

Not that you minded though.  The sound of "a few days of rest" that you had been bribed with rung in your ears like a bell.  You hated to admit, but carrying around an extra human for the many months you had been doing so for was exhausting.  

Constantly, you would find that you had little to no energy.  Which would usually result in you staying in bed all day, practically begging for sleep.  During which either Eren or Levi would be running back and forth from the kitchen, bringing you the things that you would suddenly begin to crave.

Though it was still only early afternoon, you closed your eyes and shifted slightly under the covers.  Soon, you had fallen into a deep sleep.

The days passed slowly for you as the day of the Recon Corps return drew closer and closer.

Hanji came in to check on you every hour, bringing you water and a small snack as well.  Which you were always very grateful for.

Surprisingly, Erwin came in to chat with you often in hopes to ease your boredom.

The tall, handsome, and young man that you once knew was no more as Erwin's physical appearance was slowly beginning to change into that of an old man.  Slight lines were beginning to appear on his forehead and around his ears.  His once gleaming, yellow hair was now dull and streaked with gray.  The veins on his skin were now much more visible and protrudent.

Sometimes, during his visit, he would bring along the children of his own to say "hello".  After his retirement, Erwin met his wife while walking through the streets.  And together, the two had two beautiful children.  Twins to be exact.  One boy, and one girl.

The twins were rowdy, always bickering amongst each other.  But adorable none the less.  Ezra, the girl, took much after her mother.  With brown, wavy locks that reached the middle of her back.  Her eyes however, were the same deep blue as her father's.  Their son, Magnus, looked a lot like Erwin.  His golden hair shined brightly with the sun's reflection, however, his strangely colorful eyes set him apart from the rest of the family.  Erwin would often joke that they used his eyes to tell the weather.  Blue meant rain, Green equalled windy, and gray meant for clear skies.

"Auntie (name), when are we going to meet your baby?"  Ezra asked as she poked at her belly.

"Yeeeeah!  We wanna play with them already!"  Magnus chimed in behind his sister. His shining gray eyes staring at the lump in your stomach.

You giggled.  'Looks like clear skies.'  "Hopefully soon."  You said, patting his head.

"You know, you're all they talk about back at the house."  Erwin's wife, Amelia chuckled from behind her husband.

Erwin chipped in, "'When can we hang out with Auntie again?'  'Has she had her baby yet?'  Those kinds of things."

You laughed slightly.  But then let out a gasp and clutched your stomach as a huge pain spread throughout your abdomen.

"Auntie?"  Ezra called.

"Are you alright?"  Magnus finished.

Looking at the children, you nodded your head slowly.  "I'm fine.  I think the baby's just getting a little rambunctious."  You said, still grasping at your stomach in pain.

"(Name), I don't think the baby's just playing around this time."  Amelia said as she reached your bedside.  "I think, you're starting to have contractions!"

"Well isn't that just peachy.  What am I supposed to do?"  You groaned, seriously unsure as to what you were supposed to do next.

"Just do the breathing exercise we practiced.  The pain should subside after a few minutes.  I'm sorry to break this to you (name).  But you've got a long day ahead of you."  She informed you.

"Erwin!"  She continued as she looked towards her husband.  "Could you take the kids home?  This is a woman's thing."

Quickly, Erwin stood up and nodded before shooing the children out of the room and shutting the door behind him.

"Damnit,". You winced.  "I promised Levi that I'd hold on until he gets back later today."

"It's alright (name).  He still may make it in time."

Hours passed slowly as Hanji and Amelia helped you through slowly increasing rate of contractions.

"Jesus fucking Christ."  You growled, gripping tightly onto Hanji's hand as another wave of pain surged through you.

"You'll survive (name).  You've been through worse than this."  Hanji said supportively as Amelia wiped away the droplets of sweat that gathered on your forehead, causing your (h/c) locks to stick to your skin.

Suddenly, the tolling of bells could be heard from the distance.

You let out a sigh of relief as the pain subsided.  "Well it's about god damn time."  You said between gasps of air.

"You're about 7 centimeters dilated."  Hanji informed you.  "Think you can hold on while I go fetch the father?"

You nodded, too exhausted to even speak.

"Alrighty then, I'm off!  Nurse Patty!  Watch over her while I go out for a moment!"  Hanji yelled as she quickly exited the room.

"I hope (name)'s doing alright."  Levi heard Eren say from behind.

Mikasa shoved an elbow into his side.  "Of course she is, you idiot.  It's (name) for God's sake."

"LEVI!"  He heard someone yell from ahead.

Squinting his eyes, he watched as Hanji ran towards them on her horse.

Levi, somewhat bewildered, abruptly stopped his horse.  As did the rest of the Legion.

"LEVI!"  Hanji yelled, as if out of breath.  "IT'S (NAME)!"  She gasped.  "SHE'S GONE INTO LABOR!"

The Corporal's eyes shot open.  "(Name), what?"

Shouts could be heard from all around.

"CONGRATULATIONS LANCE CORPORAL!" and "LOOK OUT!  WE'VE GOT A BABY ON BOARD!"  Could be heard coming from the soldiers.  Shortly afterwards, the townspeople started cheering as well.

"LOOK!  WE'VE GOT NO TIME TO WASTE IF YOU WANT TO MAKE IT IN TIME!"  Hanji hesitated.  "Daddy."  She snickered.

With that last word, Levi snapped the reins of his horse and ran off towards where his wife was.

"COME ON, GUYS!  WE'VE GOT A BABY ON THE WAY!"  Armin shouted as he snapped the reins of his horse, causing it to rush forwards.

The crowd of soldiers roared in response as they all took off down the road.

"(NAME)!"  Levi shouted as he ran through the doorway to your room.

"Hey there...  Levi."  You said out of breath.

Quickly, he ran to your side and grasped your hand firmly in his.

"For a moment there...  I thought you... Weren't gonna...  Make it.'  You gasped, sweat rolling down your face.

"Aaaand push!"  The nurse at the head of the bed shouted.

"Hnnngh."  You let out as you pushed for what felt like the umpteenth time.

You were almost certain that Levi was about to pass out.  The color from his face was drained and he looked down at you with a very worried expression.

"See what you do to me?"  You said jokingly.

Levi crumbled down next to you and rest his head or your shoulder.

"I'm sorry (name)."

You gave him a quick smack upside the head, and he snapped his gaze back up to you.

"What are you saying sorry for?  I'm doing this because I love you.  It may hurt like a biiiiitch.  But it hurts much less knowing that you're here."  You shot him a pained smile.

Levi squeezed your hand tighter.  "We'll get through this."

You nodded.  "Together."

After another half an hour of endless pushing, crying could finally be heard throughout the infirmary.  Along with the cheers of hundreds of soldiers who were gathered in the hallways.

"Congratulations!  It's a healthy baby girl!"  The nurse announced happily.  More cheers and whistles came from the hallway.

You shot a glance at Levi, who simply raised an eyebrow.

"Told ya so."  He smirked, before leaning down and pressing his lips onto your sweaty forehead.

"Here."  The nurse said as she handed you the small, yet surprisingly heavy, bundle.

Readjusting your arms, you looked down at your daughter.   Fine, jet black hair covered a patch of her head.  Slowly, you brought your hand up and carefully caressed her mostly bald head.  Her eyes fluttered open, and she stared at you inquisitively.  She had her father's eyes.  However, her nose, mouth, and cheeks all seemed to resemble your own.  You couldn't help but smile widely as she gripped onto one of your fingers, pulling it closely to her body.

She was the most perfect thing you had ever seen.

"So,"  You heard someone start.  "What are you going to name her?"

You looked up and met eyes with a smiling Eren.  Mikasa's arms intertwined with his as she gazed down at you admirably, Armin right next to her, smiling down at you.

'When did they get there?'  You thought to yourself.

Sitting up slightly, you looked up towards Levi.  Meeting your gaze, he simply smiled and nodded.

You looked back down towards your daughter, who was now comfortably sleeping in your arms.

"Lillian."  You muttered.  "That's what we'll call her:  Lillian."

"Lillian, huh?"  Eren commented.  "I like it."

"A very beautiful choice."  Armin commented as well.

Mikasa simply nodded in agreement, still awestruck.

"Levi, do you want to hold her?"  You asked, detaching your finger carefully from the little one's grasp.

Levi nodded silently, and you handed him the small, sleeping bundle.

Carefully, Levi held his child in his arms, studying every little detail of Lillian's face.

"(Name)."  He said, his voice cracking.  Tears were welling up in his eyes.

You stared up at him lovingly as he crouched down next to you and gently kissed your forehead once again.

"She's beautiful.  Thank you."

You pulled him into an embrace as he buried his face into your shoulder.

"I love you."  He cooed.

"I love you too, Levi."

"Uuuuuuuhhh.  I'd hate to ruin your guys' lovely-dovey moment, but can we see her?"  Eren asked abruptly.

Pulling away, Levi handed you Lillian's little bundle, and wiped the tears from his face.

"Sure, Eren."  You said as he ran to your side.

Upon giving him your bundle, you instructed him on the correct way to hold her.  After his lecture was done, he happily cuddled little Lillian and walked over towards Mikasa and Armin.

The two looked down at the newborn in awe.

"Hello there, Lillian.  I'm Uncle Eren.  And this is Aunt Mikasa and Uncle Armin."  Eren cooed happily.

"Oi, Brat."  Levi called, placing his hands on his hips.  "What makes you so sure that I'd allow her to be your niece."

"Uhhhh.  Intuition?"  Eren laughed nervously.

"Pfffffffft."  You sputtered.

"Auntie Hanji gets a turn holding the baby, right?!"  Hanji shouted happily.

"No."  Levi said coarsely.

"But...  But Levi."  Hanji whined.

"No.  You'd probably end up dropping her.  Now is this 'pass around the baby' or something?  Give her here."  Levi demanded.  "(Name) needs to rest."

A LOT of unhappy whines exploded throughout the hallway as people started leaving the premises.

Once everyone had left, Levi turned to you with Lillian still in hand.

"You are the most amazing woman I've ever met."  He started.  "After all you've been through, you're still here, by my side.  You truly are a miracle."  Levi said as he walked to the side of your bed and pulled you in for a long and gentle kiss.

"Well, you know what they all say."  You said sleepily.  "Miracles give rise to more miracles."

Levi chuckled and wrapped an arm around your shoulder as he climbed into the bed.  He looked down at his beautiful little girl.  How much she resembled her mother.  And how much she resembled himself.

"That.  They certainly do."
